I doubt it.

It depends on where that GM 2.5 came from.

If it came from a GM vehicle post 1965, the answer is NO.

The GM 2.5 liter, there have been several. Only one was the 'inustrial/marine" version. Car engines need not apply. There are NO similar characteristics, other than displacement.

With that said, you can replace the GM 2.5 with a 3.0 very cheaply. They are everywhere. Rebuilt, new, etc.

The 1979 GM (MerCruiser/OMC) has NO resemblence to automotive blocks, of that year range.

As stated, if you need a block, they are readily available at reasonable prices. Just NOT from the auto junkyard.

You will not find an AUTOMOTIVE GM block, of that vinatage to work.

A GM "marine" engine, of that vintage will. Be it MC or OMC.

Nope,...2 Totally different motors...

The 2.5l automotive motor is the GM corporate motor, which is a 151cid motor of Pontiac heritage...
The 2.5l Marine/ Industrial GM motor is a 153cid motor of Chevy heritage....
