I have this box behind my dash. It has 2 wires coming out. Black goes to ground and red goes to an unknown switch with a propeller stamped on it on the dash. This is on a 1994 Sea Ray Laguna outboard. Can you tell me what it is?

I am in the process of replacing the existing AM/FM radio. I am thinking of making a new dash out of plexiglass. Would it be a bad idea to move the radio up to the dash?

Is that a DIN type plug like what connects a GPS to the VHF and the fuel sensor etc.? Looks like it could be something like that or maybe where a GPS would connect to an autopilot.

i would save the space for future use. you already have the cutout for the radio.

Re: Can you tell me what this is?

The box has a receptacle with 3 female pins inside the connection. Not sure what the switch does. I have never had to use it while under way.

I intended to put the radio in the original spot, but the new radio's cover is slightly smaller than the original. I guess if I wanted to mount it in the original spot I would have to first mount a filler plate over the existing hole. I was thinking if I bought new plexiglass for the replacement dash, I could cut a piece off for a cover plate and then bolt the new radio cover to that??

That box is probably for the depth guage.
