Can you test DVA with engine running?

Got a boat that runs one day not next.
Today I was checking DVA not running.
Can I check the DVA while the engine is running for the the trigger DVA & stator test.? Using a DVA adapter?

Its got to be a lot easier to find faults when the engine will not fire.

I know it helps when it isn't runnig but f it is running that day can I see what the DVA values are on a "good day" by reading them while running.
So far my prob seem to be starter or cranking related (not spinning fast enough)
Got it running with different battery first shot, it spun faster.

yep...thats the problem , it has to spin 300 rpm or it will not fire.

Can someone answer that question please.
I need to return the tester I borrowed soon and still dunno if you

If you MUST check it when running and I don't see why, You can buy clamp type probes that go around the wire and pierces it. Then hook your meter to them so you can get a reading when running. Caution, any time you do that you may have a corroision prob with wires later on. I've got two of those probes in my tool box. Used to use them for anything not marine related.

Piercing probes, seal the pin holes later with liquid eletrical tape.

I find it easier to stick the probes down the back of connector plugs.

You are less likely to spot a problem while running. Its a long drawn out explanation....check it while at cranking speed.....
