Any cancer survivors on the dock, or know of one. Anybody going thru treatments? I spent 2 years in a nursing home battling cancer...several days in a coma. That was 2 years ago... I am now about as well as I was before the fight, back to working, which is boats and fish. I can't say it didn't change my life, but most changes were for the better. I lived as if i was dying anyway, and encourage others to do the same while you are healthy :)

Re: Cancer Survivors

My wife fought the monster a couple years ago and like you, she won. She did not have quite the extent you did though. She had a mastectomy, recontruction, chemo, the blood cell shots, the sickness and everything that goes with it.

My hat is off and I bow to anyone thats been through cancer treatments and to those that care for them.

Yep do not give in.
Prayers to you.

Mom has just gotten done with chemo and had to miss doing fishcamp this year.
She is planing to do it next year and get out picking berries.
Do not know if she is going to need radiation yet as the doc's are seeing what the next 3 month check up looks like.

Like you she is not letting cancer rule her life.

My Dad has survived Colon Cancer twice it was pretty rough if he loses anymore Colon he will be permanatly on a Colostomy bag. He just had a 3 year check up, and soo far he is clean.

In 1976 my grandfather had a kidney removed from kidney cancer. In 1998 he lost 30% of the remaining kidney, amazing things the kidney's are he never had to have dialysis. (if he lost anymore he would have). We lost him in 2009 unrelated matter.

Mine too,stic88........I think it was harder on others than me. I watched my Mother fight it for 5 years and loose. To let others know....The fight can be won.

My hats off to those that care for them. Things might have been different without the strong friendships I developed over the years. They were my angels. :)

Re: Cancer Survivors

My wife just celebrated 12 years after a Stage III ovarian diagnosis. She's a fighter, though. Couldn't talk her out of putting shingles on a Habitat for Humanity house while she was doing her 6 rounds of chemo.

My dad just celebrated 3 years after having half a lung removed for lung cancer - he's 83 and still kickin'.

Attitude may not be everything but it sure helps. And my wife says a beer or two between chemo keeps your white cell count up. The doc didn't think that's what did it but couldn't believe she didn't have to delay any treatments for low white count, so I'm thinkin' wifey knows best!

Every day is a blessing, count 'em all.

Re: Cancer Survivors

I was so lucky I feel guilty. Prostate. Had the TURP (TransUrethalResectionofProstate). End of story. That was 1997.

Now I am getting CAT scans, MRIs, pokes and prods on a weekly basis looking for troubles. Got a massive AAA, constricted esophogus and a suspicious lump on my tongue. They all call for cutting.

I just wish they would quit taking tests and comparing notes with my Cardiologist (three stents and a double bypass) and just get it the heck over with. :(

Re: Cancer Survivors

Sasto glad to here about you and others out there that have battled or are battling cancer and have won or are turning the corner with their fight. It is sad to here about so many others that are not as fortunate.

I myself am a cancer survivor of 7 years now and am thankful to no end for each new day that I have.

Rodbolt tell your son to stay positive and fight hard. I had (from what you described) the same disease. I had stage 4 non-hodgekins lymphoma. Same thing started in my back and spread to liver and stomach as well. I sure from what you read on the internet it sounds bad but it is beatable. I did chemo for a while and then radiation and lots of tests and follow-ups later things are what they appear back to normal.

Prayers and thought go out to everyone battling.

Re: Cancer Survivors

Good luck to all infected or affected.....Positive attitude is important....A friend joined me up with the "Livestrong Foundatation" and their book is full of info and success stories. I would recommend it for all. I wore the Livestrong bracelet for a long time....now it is tattooed to my wrist with the writing facing me. The Admiral wears one with the writing facing others. Prayers for all....Capt. Mike

Re: Cancer Survivors

Last October I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. I have had 8 months of Chemo Therapy. I did not know how sick I was until I started to feel better! It has been almost a year since I was diagnosed and I am feeling great. It helps to have things to do to help keep me active and my mind off of thoughts of cancer. Working on the boat with my two sons has been great therapy! Spending time on the lake really puts things into perspective. What a great place to be! Sitting in the boat with my family watching the sun set, it's the simple things that makes one forget all their troubles. Thank God for letting me enjoy life again! We get so caught up in the day to day things we forget about the simple pleasures. To all of you who have dealt with cancer, God Bless! Remember the CAN in cancer as in we can beat this!!

Re: Cancer Survivors

I whole heartedly agree with Sasto that a positive attitude is HUGE when it comes to beating cancer. For those who haven't read Lance Armstrongs first book "It's not about the bike" it is very inspiring and gives you that extra motivation to keep fighting. As lance said "you picked on the wrong person to mess with". I also continue to wear the Livestrong braclet to reming me about others battling through.
