Cannot stop engine with key switch.

My 1989 70 hp Merc will not shut down when I turn the key off. I can kill the engine by pushing in the key (choke) and putting the engine in gear.<br /><br />The switch is new (about 3 months old) and the connections are clean.<br /><br />Any suggestions?

Your missing a ground wire someplace.the key is supposed to ground the pack out.check the connection at the pack and the main harness plug.
