My buddy left a fishing rod on the front of my barge over the weekend. Somehow the bail opened and line spooled out while we were under way. By the time he realized what was going on and started reeling quite a bit of line had come out under the boat. We enjoyed the rest of our evening and didn't think about it any more. The next day we were cruising and goofing off when I noticed the PSI on the water pump weren't what they had been during previous outings. I think it just needs an impeller, which it's getting this week, but he emailed me today to ask if everything was okay. He's the type that will unquestioningly pay to repair anything he's even looked at that breaks. I couldn't resist telling him that I pulled the LU and found fishing line wrapped around the impeller and the motor had overheated to the point that one of the cylinder walls was scored. I told him I'd have to have the head rebuilt and it would cost three or four grand and we'd be out of commission for the long weekend. He was sick about it. After a couple more emails he called to ask when he could bring me a check. I finally let him off the hook. Couldn't believe he thought I was telling the truth! Poor guy. Guess he owes me one now. Hopefully they won't find any line wrapped around the prop shaft seal. That would serve me right I guess.
