Ok same as everybody, 1986 merc 150 runs hot on a load. Just got this motor so change water pump completely, and new poppit kit. Starboard side was hot, so the temp guns says. replaced head gasket and cover gasket, also. No difference.
ANY IDDEAS?
Took the head down had it shaved .015 to correct it, new gasket, same problem. put another gasket thought jugs were out, same problem. Compression is an even 120 psi accross the board, BTW.
Put a water pressure gauge on and at idle 10 psi, (have not been able to go out to see at wot where it stands.) Tguns says the cylinder head cover is hot throwing the alarm, not the rest. so i did run until other side wentover 200 on gauge . I am convinced I have an exhaust gasket or plate issue.
I also took off exhaust cover to inspect the water jackets (all good). Also has good t-stats, as well. I even inspected the water tube on both ends and sealed the divider between exhaust and pump
Is there a procedure I can do to test my theory, or Do I just have to dig in!!
And are these old mercs worth the hassle? It does get up and go, just can't go anywhere
