Can't figure it out

I have a 1982 Johnson 50 hp I replaced the solenoid and the keyed ignition. Problem: started boat at the house several times no problem, went to the ramp started rode for about 20 minutes shut it down sat in the water for several hours went to leave, again, started right up. Cruised around for about an hour stopped sat for about 35-45 minutes went to leave turn the key and nothing. Had to jump across the solenoid to get it started. Tested solenoid got power to the solenoid and also to the ignition wire on the solenoid but it doesn't complete the circuit. All connections are tight. Was wondering if I'm missing something? Any thoughts? Thanks

Re: Can't figure it out

Make might have a neutral safety switch thats out of adjustment or going haywire on you. You might be able to verify this. Take starter wire off of starter. Turn the key to start position and move shifter handle back and forth while listening to solenoid. You will understand once you do it. If thats the issue, Adjust as necessary. If not, could be a bad switch and or broken, loose wire. Post back and let us know.
