cant figure out what year 15hp evinrude+fuel mixture

i just got an older evinrude 15hp. serial #15012-27472(COULD BE 15012-77472) i thinks its a 56-59. she wont start (did start before) what is the fuel mixture also. i was told 32 to 1??? pulled it tell my arm was dead!, let it sit for a few days, put new plugs in and it fired right up, stopped it to put it in some water , and now wont start again.<br />captain kev

Hi Kev <br />Your motor is a 1953-54 model. The proper fuel-oil ratio is 24:1. You allways need to run outboards in water. As little as 3 sec. dry can damage a water pump empeller. I suggest you make a trip to the library for a manual on 50's model Omc outboards. Armed with a little knowlage you might have a good running motor there.
