Cant figure out which starter for 233hp 351 ford

i was hoping someone could help me here. i think i need a new starter for my 76 searay srv200 with the 233hp ford 351 v8 engine. my problem is that every site i go to has pictures of starters with solenoids on them when i search for my starter. my starter has no solenoid on it and there is a remote solenoid attached to the engine block. is it possible that the prev owner installed the wrong starter and in doing so also installed a remote solenoid? if so is it possible to install a new starter that has a solenoid on it and remove the remote solenoid installed in my boat? thanks for any help, it is much appreciated.<br />corey

I would go with a gear reduction high torque mini starter. They also have a starter mounted soleniod. All you have to do is to turn your engine mounted solenoid into a switch. If you need a diagram, let me know. I run the mini on my 302. It puts the big boys to shame.

can you actually use another type of starter like that? would it match up with the bolt holes and match the gears? also do you think it would match the surface as well? if that is the case and starters are interchangeable i will def go with what you are recommending. thanks

Contact these people regarding a hi-torque starter for the ford. The one shown is for GM. The fords cost a little more. If by chance they do not do the ford one, get back to me and I'll round up the vendor I got mine from.<br /><br /> hi-torque mini marine starter

That's the same starter I got except I think I only paid 129$+shipping. The wires shown are for hooking up to your original solenoid as a switch.

At skidim they have 2 on there for the 351, the top one is for an external soliniod engine like yours and will bolt right on, the 4th one down is the newer one with a soliniod on the back, which you will need to rewire.<br /><br />Also make sure you get one with the correct rotation!<br /><br /> http://www.skidim.com/products.asp?dept=1030

boomyal...<br />it looks like they dont have a starter for a ford 351 from 76. who was your vendor, do you think they would have one?
