Can't figure out year or get it running!!!

Trying to find out year for 33 HP Johnson.<br />Model: RXE-15S<br />Serial: J2736170<br /><br />Also trying to get the thing to run. It's been sitting 6+ years. Can't get the gear to turn to see if the motor will fire up. We were able to free the wheel to a point but still can't pull the cord once the compression strole seem to start.<br />Also the starter won't engage the whell so I guess that's need repair or replacement. <br />Any tips on getting this thing going would be appreciated. I'm new to this boat motor stiff by the way.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Charles

Hi cvader20000<br /><br />That's a 1967 model ya got there. Try putting some Marvel Mystery Oil into the spark plug holes and let it sit for a few days and try it again. I'm sure there could be a good amount of rust and the rings may be frozen to the cylinder walls. Give that a try and we can go from there if it frees up.

I agree with rick on the mystery oil, but when you do it put the motor carb down and put enough mystery oil in there to cover the face of the piston let it set then turn it over if it still feels rough don't force it, just keep adding oil and moving the flywheel untill it will turn over, you should remove the head and check the cyls for pitting if they are you will have to bore them or the rings will never last.
