cant find new merc 200hp starter

the only ones are avaiable is the 8 tooth and i have a 9 tooth, can the bendix and gear be swapped ?..ie take the 9 tooth and put it on a new 8 tooth starter...<br /><br />my motor serial # is<br />6158743 model 1200642 and call for a part<br />#of50-86976 for the starter...

Have you tried to fit the 8 tooth? They may have gone to the 8 tooth to give the starter a little more power.They may have allowed for the slight difference in drive size.
