Re: Cant find the kill switch on my 62' 40hp Johnson
Just like Lindy said. The kill switch is wired through the ignition switch, whereas the ignition system is grounded through the key switch. If you find your battery dead for any reason and you decide to hand start it, you better make sure your key is in the on position, or you'll be cranking all day for nothin'. If for some reason, that you don't have your key, just unhook the plug on the side of the motor, before you start cranking on it. You could turn the throttle lever all the way right, but those often times have a throttle stop on them and are set to allow the motor to idle at a preferred RPM when you pull the lever on the shift box all the way back. If you stop the motor with this method, make sure your throttle stop screw is backed out enough to allow for you to kill the motor.
