Can't find year of motor

I have a johnson 9.9 I bought used . The model is "10824M". The serial is "E0004612". I can't find ANY numbers that match this motor. I bought the motor used from a man who said he bought it in Canada. He said it was 1974, but he had three 9.9's and I think he had them confused. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks again OBJ. I can finally get some parts ordered. This numbering system is obscure at best. The old fella I bought the motor from, wanted to sell me all his equipment for a price I can only kick myself for not taking. Family needed fed at the time and money was short. Now the family is raised and the money is available, but I never run into the good deals. Just seems to work that way.

Actually Dave I think your "Johnson" is an Evinrude with a Johnson top. In the 70's, Johnson would have used a model number like "10R78". The Evinrudes used the number as you posted. But still it's the same engine. Just a different color.
