Sorry but after reading certain post I felt a rant was in order. There are a great number of wise and even professional individuals here. Thus the reason I choose to join. But no one here can fix stupid. Please read your owners and tech manuals. This includes the warnings. And regardless whether, or not someone is going to give you flak, or not. Please ask a dumb question. I am a firm believer in the only dumb question is the one you did not ask.
If I?m out of line I apologize. And Happy boating
:D

I kinda agree with you on some things although others might argue the point. There are NO stupid questions when it comes to safety :D but then there the other ones who wonldn't even ask if it kills them. And given enough time it just might do that! As long as when they do that one stupid thing it doesn't take some inoccent person/boater with them in thier final quest for glory.

Really wonder what the heck you are talking about, ABW. The notion of making a generalized attack on everyone sounds like something you claim can't be fixed.

Yes, individuals make mistakes, individuals have beliefs that are challengable. Some can't, don't or won't read the rules, some can't don't or won't edit their posts into something readable.

None of that makes anyone stupid and all of it can be fixed. Not that it will be fixed, but it could.

I would rather help a poster who needs help but doesn't post a literate masterpiece than one who makes negative comments about other posters.

JB this was not intended as a personal attack on anyone. Especially when it come down to literacy. God knows I make my own spelling and sentence errors. The intended message is that it is better to ask questions regardless of how someone else sees it. Than it is to proceed and break something by guessing. Seriously Not met as a personel attack by any means.

I was in the Infantry and I have to disagree with you. I know for a fact that there are dumb questions.

Agreed.

"They shootin' at us?"
"Can you hand me that 50cal round so I can use it to tap this mount into place?"
"What did you say, Drill Sgt?"

Should I continue?

Re: Can't fix stupid

as far as im concerned there is no such thing as a stupid question on the iboats forum... everyone is here to help others, weather professional, amateur, or novice. if we have been through a similar situation we are willing to help. I love this site...at times i may feel whatever question i am asking may be stupid...but at the same time there are so many threads in this site that it is almost nearly impossible sometimes to use the search function as a method to find your answer. However, whatever you may be doing to your boat, or wanting to know about your boat, i suggest you use the search function as there is alot of easily found information on this site that answers alot of general questions :)

Guess I misread. Apology.

We agree that it is always better to ask and not good to ridicule the question.

I have to agree. My motto: Stupid kills, just not enough! Sorry, if that sounds cras. But, we Americans tend to regulate ourselves to the level of the dumbest person we might encounter. Sadly, we end up protecting those who shouldn't be in the gene pool.
As far as dumb questions, I agree the dumbest question is the one you don't ask. That being said, there are always those questions one asks, then immediately realize it was a silly question and you answered it yourself or feel silly for asking it. It's those who ask and think it's a serious question who scare me!!

Could this thread have anything to do with the hand slapping that goes on in the I/O section?? I personally am reluctant to ask questions in that section anymore.

Hmmm. I don't generally have much interest in I/O but maybe I'll have to wander over there some time and view the carnage.

The I/O section is tame compared to the trailer section!

Easy to say there are no stupid questions, until you ask one or make a statement out of ignorance that others think is stupid. The slap-down can be pretty severe. We just take it like adults and move on. Thin-skinned need not apply.

I know what you are talking about. I've gotten very good help there, but there is one who is very knowledgeable but is a hand slapper and gives some rather rude replies.
