Re: Can't get lower unit back on

Couple of things:

1. Make sure the water tube is in the guide at the water pump.

2. Make sure the lower shift shaft is lined up, I have to use a screw driver to leverage mine over a bit when I'm doing mine.

3. This really isn't a one man job. Get a helper, and have them wiggle the flywheel while you push up, usually what is holding you up if 1 &2 are right is the drive shaft isn't aligned with the motor. You push up while they are wiggling and that usually does it.

4. DON'T FORCE IT. When it is lined up correctly, it will slide right up (much to your relief!)

5. Make sure you lubricated the drive and shift shafts!

Best of Luck!

Not sure what motor you have but here is what I did.

Put the gear shift in forward. With a pliers, shift the lower unit into forward. There is a flat area on the shaft for the shift. Make sure that shaft flat faces the drive shaft. Both will be in forward at that point. Make sure the water supply tube is set into the guide tube. Then raise the lower unit up. When it gets to the point of not going up any further simply turn the prop. One way you will get a clicking sound. The opposite way the drive shaft will turn and then it will seat itself and it will slide up into place. Good luck.
