my previous post here i stated that we had had a failure of our flywheel and stator on our 1995 175 hp Johnson outboard down here in Mexico...well the resource's for repair down here are meager and with the help of a local mechanic, the internet and the kind replies from this forum we repaired the engine and have been happily catching dorado ever since... now i have have another question if you don't mind.. my partner got into a little problem with some rocks and in a bad situation raised the motor up till it locked (i guess in the travel position?)...try as we might we cant get it back down... if anybody has an idea that would help us ..it would be greatly appreciated...the dorados are waiting for us :).
thanks in advance...oldgringo

Sometimes they just go up all the way and get stuck.
Have you tried the manual release valve?
It should be on the starboard side of the transom bracket, toward the bottom and takes a flat screw driver to open the valve.
Have someone push down on the motor and release the valve. It should take the pressure off of the trim unit and lower the motor.

There is a tilt-limit switch at the top of the tilt that sometimes sticks; if it does stick the unit will not work.

See the midsection diagram #93. http://shop.evinrude.com/

Be sure that the trail lock is released.
