Ok ... so my Force 125 began stalling at low idle. I read all the posts regarding the carb adjustments and noted that some of you found that the stator may also be the problem. I decided to order a stator and change it now BEFORE lauching for the season.

So here I am with a new CDI stator and I can't get the $@#& flywheel to BUDGE!

The nut came off fine. I've got a harmonic puller cranked down to the max, plenty of WD40 in there and no matter how much I hammer it (...easy does it.) - it wont pop off.

Someone suggested dry-ice...any suggestions??

Joe

It sounds (I hate to say) that you are doing all you can do, without wiping-out the flywheel,or at minimum, the magnets.
I recently had the same problem on an inline six Merc. The only thing that did it, was WD40,overnight, and an impact wrench on the puller..This,after I tried everything else. They can entertain me for hours, much like the rusted-on manifolds of an old Mercruiser.
But cuss at it a few more days, and when it gets the better of you,walk-away, get the can of WD-lucy-juice,and drown it for all the grief it gave you.Come back when cooler, and try it some more.
I lucked-out on the Merc flywheel by not F.U.B.A.R.ing it with the impact wrench.
Dry ice around the shaft would help durring assmbly, but I doubt you can isolate it's effects form the flywheel at the same time, which would cool them together, which would negate the effect you wanted (to contract the shaft, while the flywheel was expanded to room temp or heated higher.
And don't use heat,as it will destroy the upper crank seal.

Hi Joe
As a last ditch attempt. Get your puller as thight as she get. Put a piece of ply wood on the floor (to pad cowling) lay the motor down on it's side (the side that gives you the best shot at the flywheel) add more blocking as needed. Line up the keyway in your window of battery. Use a heavy hammer, take well aimed, deliberate blows. Remember I said this is a last ditch deal. It will be win or loose.

Thanks ... I think the impact wrench wins. I'll give it a whirl this week. (pardon the pun)

One more dumb question... what's the best way to immobilize the flywheel? I hate blocking the prop against an impact wrench.

Thanks Again

Joe

Get Super Blaster penetrating fluid in the spray can at the auto parts store, it's the best. Heat the center of the flywheel with a heat gun until you can just still put your fingers on it for one second, then tighten the puller. If still no go, apply strong upward pressure on both sides of the flywheel then whack the puller screw with a light steel hammer, not a brass or shot filled hammer, not a big 12 oz claw hammer.

Re: Can't get the Force Flywheel Off!

I'm having the same problem with my 86 85hp force...had to overdrill flywheel for 5/16th bolts. Used dampner puller...heated the hell out of the center shaft and flywheel and still broke the GRADE 8 BOLTS!!! WTF??? I'm afraid to use an impact gun on this as I dont want to damage the crankshaft. Any suggestions or should I take it in and have a shop do it. Reason for removing flywheel....block needs to be overbored due to broken piston.

i used a three jaw puller, put the jaws under the flywheel not under the upper lip, if you put it under the upper lip youll just pull lip apart and be back to square one with a damaged flywheel, mine was the same as yours, redrilled the holes, yanked those out, heated the hell out of it, banged pulled swore threw stuff around and that sweetheart would not budge used the jaw puller cranked it on there and a rap from a hammer see popped right off good luck
