Can't Get Water To Pick Up Omc Need Advise

I Have 1970 Omc Sterndrive (88hp) Replaced Impeller And Housing Still Won't Prime. If I Force Water In It Will Circulate Fine. Could Anyone Tell Me What Else I Could Look For? WHERE IS THE WATER PICK UP PUMP LOCATED?

??? Your water pick up pump is the impeller you just replaced.

How are you testing it? The drive needs to be submerged about as deep as it is when in the water. If you are testing in a bucket that just covers the water intakes it will never prime...

Water has to be above the split between the upper and lower gear cases.

Above the propeller there is the Water Intake. there is a round hole underneath the intake so you can stick a garden hose into. Is that what you are doing? If not, how are you forcing water into it?
