1996 Mercury 90 hp - serial # 0G422118

At wide open throttle, it runs about 4,000 RPM which gets us less than 20mph speed. Does the RPM speed seem reasonable for this motor?

rpm is about 1500 low. check if you have spark on all cyl. check compression, you didn't say whether it has sat for a while or not.. how many people in the boat? what size and type boat? we need more info.

We purchased boat in May and have been going out almost every weekend. It has never been fast but just seems like it has gotten slower and slower. Usually just 2-4 adults (<700 lbs) in boat but last weekend my brother-in-law took his 20 year old son out with 2 of his friends and drug them around in the tube.......One of the guys he pulled on the tube weighed 340 lbs......also, they got engine caught in flounder net but got it out pretty easy.........The boat is a SeaRay 175.

Did you get more than 4000 RPM before the net got caught up? If so might be some of it still in there.
