Can't identify model year on johnson serial # 1918827

I have a 1959 or 1960 Johnson 35/40hp outboard and can't find model number anywhere. I have the serial number and wonder if that can identify model year?

1988, it the 4th and 5th numbers of your serial number

Tough to say..... the difference between the two motors 35 and 40 is only 1/8" in bore diameter. Post a photo of the motor and one of our collector people "might" be able to help.

The short part of the story is this...... the carb kits and the impellar's are the same. Only the pistons and bore size is different.
