Ok, so we have two things going against us - 1) We are men, and 2) We are boat builders. That equates to "We can't leave well enough alone". We can't help it, we are perfectionists.

After countless hours of prep, I laid 3 coats of beautiful topside paint. Followed that with 6 coats of polyacrylic. Boy did that boat shine! It was also protected with the crystal clear acrylic. But then one night I saw a few brush marks. No problem, I have a can of spray on polyurethane. I'll just spray a light coat. Woke up the next morning to find that it turned yellow!

I probably could have wet sanded down the yellow and been done with it, but no, I am a man. I sand the whole thing, prime, paint, paint, sand, paint, paint, blah, blah, blah. Now waiting on the last coat of polyacrylic to dry, than I will tape a sheet the top off and leave it alone while I work on the bottom.

Argh!

The inability to accept "good enough" has lengthened many a project. It has also lead to some truly outstanding boats.

The problem of course is when redoing it doesn't get you a better result.. you get trapped in an endless loop of work without improvement, and eventually lose your taste for finishing the project.

Not that that's happened to me, or anything.....
