is it really to much weight for 4.3?

Obviously, if you can cut back on the weight and it's ok then there is your problem.
If all 6 are adults and on the back of the boat, then you may never get it to plane.

What is your wide open throttle rpm with a normal load and then when you have a full load? It may be possible to change props with 6 on board so it will work better.

What pitch prop is on the boat?
A 4 blade will help this situation possibly.
Make sure weight is evenly distributed. In my 17ft with 3.0 Merc, if all passengers are in the back, there is no way I will pane very easily if at all.

I owned a 19ft maxum with the 4.3 Merc and with 7 full adults I could plane the boat very easily.

If engine is in tip top shape, then this sounds like a prop issue.

I have the 23 ft. maxum cuddy that is rated 1500 lbs. or 11 people. When I ran last weekend with 6 people, the bow felt it was gonna shoot up high and it took a very, very long time to plance at wot. No problem with three on board but I was very dissappointed with total 7 people whcih included me. I am planning to install nauticus' smart tabs II rated for the boat's weight hoping it will remedy the problem.

With the tabs installed, would you still recommend a 4 blade prop to improve planing when having heavy load?

Your 1500 lb rating should include everything on the boat, safety gear, anchors, fuel, beer, ice, passangers, ect, ect. It sounds as though you are overloading the boat. If your boat will only turn 3000 rpm at wot, do yourself a favor and don't run it loaded like that or you will burn the engine up, cause drive damage, or possibly both.

Also start your own thread instead of tagging on to an older thread. You will get a lot more responce.

Prop change for full load. Rule of thumb...full load, wot, recommended rpm. No offense...with 6 onboard at 200+ lbs or more, and a big boat for that engine, it's gonna lug. Check the pitch and drop a couple of inches on the big party weekend...d8)

Re: CANT PLANE 190 SUNDANCER

IMHP most boats are delivered over proped they will generally only reach there WOT pretty close to empty

How is that going to work with 6 to 8 people on board?

11 years ago I thought there was something worng with my boat because 6 people could not sit in there seats and get the boat on plane

A little asking around and it was not to hard to figure out it was not to realistic for a 3.0 to push the standard 21” prop with the boat fully loaded 

In fact if I when we go camping and need to move 6 people to town and back I just use a 17” prop and it does just fine

And for my normal load of 4 or less a vented 19” gives very good performance

I never really did find out a good use for the 21” prop

It's just a spare. If you have to idle back to the dock, install it, theroretically you'll get there 4 inches per revolution sooner than idleing on the 17. LOL

Try a smaller prop and see if that helps. If it doesn't it's always good to have a spare.

Re: CANT PLANE 190 SUNDANCER

I guess that's just the way it goes. The wot mainly applies to an almost empty boat. I just thought I would had embarrassed myself if the boat never planed at all. My wife thought I was just taking it easy but actually I had the throttle all the way out and my hands were sweating.

I'll see how much improvement these tabs can do.

Want to try the Volvo tabs but they are quite expensive- more than $600. I am already weeping at $300.

That is only part of the information needed to help you.
What is your WOT with a normal load? And what is a normal load? Are you using the drive trim properly? With a heavy load, you need to start off all the way down and come up with the drive as needed to help plane the boat. You can't just put it in one place on the gauge and expect it to work the same for all situations.

the rating on the boat 10 people or 1500lbs,we played with the trim over and over again the only way we could get it to plane was to kick three people out my thing is the boat has six seats and a cutty it should have enough power to move six people 1200lbs roughly with two pair of skis and 2 anchors

Re: CANT PLANE 190 SUNDANCER

Like i said before the prop may be correct when the boat is EMPTY

What WOT RPM do you reach with a light load ?

To proform correctly with a FULL load you most likey need a smaller prop :) when you add 1000 + POUNDS of stuff on the boat
