I picked up a parts motor 98 200hp, need to remove flywheel, bought a Harmonic balancer puller from Harbor freight broke it within minutes, got a loaner one from autozone, soaked it over night with liquid wrench pen lube, with the puller on and as tight as I could get it, used a air impact driver to tighten, been wrenching on it every 1hr,Help not moving anymore, she won't pop.... read some other threads where they talked about hitting the flywheel edges with a rubber mallet, have reservation about it, don't want to break the magnets loose......any special guarded tech tips......Help....Help...

You do not want to hit or pry anywhere on the flywheel with anything. It is aluminum and will crack or break. If you have the center bolt pulled tight, TAP the end of that bolt with a hefty hammer - preferably a dead blow type.

I have a heavy rubber dead blow. and a reg framing hammer, i don't want to ruin the dead blow on the 3/4" puller bold cap, and will hitting that damage any bearings or crankshaft ????

tried short heavy hits on the puller head with a hammer while pulling up on the flywheel as well, no luck won't pop free!

got it off, impact gun on puller not enough, had to use a 3' breaker bar...and a homemade jig to hold the flywheel, and every bit of my 240lbs of body weight on both!!!!!jig.jpg

yeah had the puller upside down, and they were stainless fenders that I had laying around! I did correct the puller though after I saw the washers bend

the woodruff key aprears to only have about 1/16" of an inch maybe a little more but not much, exposed is that normal? don't recall other engines i've owned being that short on key exposure.. saw no signs of having ever been sheared!!!! never paid to much attention to my 225's key, but did not have to much difficulty getting that flywheel off that motor either.

The key is only for flywheel alignment and never intended to hold it from rotating.
