I removed all 5 bolts but can't get the lower unit to separate from the motor. Any suggestions?
Also, how do I disconnect the shift linkage?

Re: Can't remove lower unit. HELP!!

do you have a manual at all?

there is a specific set of steps to dissengaging the shift linkage and a few important reminders about how to leave the parts until re-install...VERY important stuff.

I would think about written proceedure would still need a few photos to explain fully..

hopefully someone will have them on file...

other wise grab a hold of a manual.

Pull the clip from the shift lever on the starboard side and then push the shift lever towards the port side. It's below and just behind the intake manifold.

The release is shown on the cylinder and crankcase diagram for your engine: http://shop.evinrude.com/

I figured it out. It has to be disconnected from the linkage just below the carbs. What a pain in the %&!
