I can't shift into neutral. Merc 3.0 LX with alpha 1 drive.
When i try to shift out of gear, there's a 1-2 sec delay before it will go into neutral.
I tried to test the shift interrpter switch and the purple wire was loose ...barely hanging on...it came off as i tried to do a reading with a multimeter. I soldered it back on. Anyway if I do the reading test as per the manual seems like it's an open circuit. If I attach the + lead from the multimeter to the white/green wire from the block and put the - lead from the multimeter to the purple wire from the switch I still get an open circuit until I move the roller approx. 3/16 - 1/4 inch away from the groove, then I get a zero. Is this what is causing the 1-2 second delay before it goes back in to neutral.

Are you saying the purple wire broke off flush with the switch????? If so, then you need a new switch.
Hook your ohm meter leads one to each wire of the switch. The switch is normally open, then when you push the button in, it should show continuity.

The purple wire came off where the metal tab is on the switch. I re-soldered it and just got back from installing it ...took it for a test run and everything was fine. I think that was the problem.

thanks
