Hello all

Ive bought a boat yesterday. Today I tried to start the engine. It has remote start through a key at the controlpanel. I turned the key and something said "TICK", like a spark or something. After that the trim didnt work and still the engine wont come on. The engine is connected directly to the battery and the key is comming from the controlpanel and going to the engine. I have checked the fuse on the engine (20A) and it wasnt burned.

Does anyone of you know what could be the problem?`

I have tried to put starter cables from my car to the battery, but that didnt work either.

A slight tick sound can be caused by a fuse popping but you said that was good. But looking good and actually being good are two different things. If you don't know how to test it, replace it. If it still doesn't work, then check both ends of each battery cable. Loose or corroded connections can cause a slight tick as well. And of course, if the battery is stone dead, jump starting may not work either. You do have the controls in neutral don't you??

Yes I have it in neutral.

I will try to replace the fuse and to measure the volts of the battery. As I put on jumper cables it did make some sparkes, but not very much. But the car didnt went down in rpm's at all when I tried to turn the key.

I have now figured it out. It was corrosion on the cable that went to the battery. I took a steel brush and ran it over the poles and cables and it worked.
