In the olden days boat canvas was real canvas and it was either tan or green. Then in the '70's and '80's it was mostly white vinyl. Today Sunbrella comes in every color of the rainbow.

The fad these days is black. Just a fad. But what's cooler to sit under? In these dog days approaching 100F, is a lighter color cooler than black, or doesn't it make any difference?

I probably see more blue biminis than any other color, though I'm seeing a lot more yellow lately too.

Color theory says white will deflect the most heat, black will absorb the most. In between depends more on shade of color than the color itself. Dark blue will collect more heat, light blue will deflect more. Yellow will deflect more than light blue ... etc.

For the most part; shade will be cooler than sun no matter what color is providing the shade.

IMO the best color for boat canvas / bimini / cover / upholstery, etc. is light gray. Doesn't show dirt as bad as white, doesn't fade as bad as black, blue, red, green, etc. (Second best is tan)
