My boat came with the original 13 year old canvas that wasn't given the attention it should have. It no longer stretches, it shrunk in certain spots, and it definitely does not keep it dry! I have to throw a cheap $60 thin walmart cover over top of the canvas and combined they keep the boat about 90% dry.

How much would I expect to pay to have the canvas replaced? Just a ballpark price. My boat is an 18.5' bow rider that has the cockpit cover which goes from the windshield to the transom (roughly 9'x7') and the bow cover (roughly 4'x5').

Re: canvas costs

Most factory covers are Sunbrella or a similar high-quality fabric. Expect to pay $500-$600 to replace it with an equivelent cover.

If you go with cheaper fabrics, you can probably get something for less than $200. But don't expect it to be around for more than a year or two, much less 13 years.

My 1987 Sea Ray I bought last year still has all the original Sunbrella canvas - 23 years old. The thread on a couple of feet of it has rotted away and needs to be re-sewn, but the Sunbrella itself still looks like new. Made me go out and buy a sunbrella cover for my Crownline when I saw how well the one on the Sea Ray had held up.

Re: canvas costs

check with some local shops. I found one that gives discounts on discontinued colors/brands sometimes out here. Just for that he has earned my business several times. I just have to go in there and see what he has that week/month compared to what I need. Maybe that way you can find a balance in quality/cost. its a longshot but maybe.....

Yup. A Sunbrella cover for my Carver 21 with a couple of extra zips and flaps for my bimini custom fitted with some kind of 15 year thread set me back 750.00 about 6 years ago. Still looks good, showing some wear on the underside where it goes over the windshield.
