Canvas cover questions

I've got a 1990 Sunbird Corsica 175 Stinger. Of course, the original snap-on canvas cover is gone, Lord knows where. Is there anywhere that sells one? Or, has anyone ever made their own? Are the difficult to make? I have some sewing experience, and I recently recovered the seats in it. I'm not a professional by any stretch, but they came out ok. Is canvas any more difficult to work with than vinyl? Thanks.

Re: Canvas cover questions

Canvas is not harder to work with, but you need the right tools, a heat knife for cutting (raw edges will fray if not melted) and the seams are a little harder...best seam is a flat-felled seam, but at minimum a semi flat felled seam (AKA a reinforced seam). the main trick to boat covers is the size, its a lot of materiel to handle and feed through the machine, if you don't have an industrial machine, it will be very frustrating....laying out the cuts and seams is also a trick to get it right, your patterning to something non-existent so you have to be able to see the finished product in your mind and work backwards (how I do it anyways, but you get the point)

Re: Canvas cover questions

Thanks Judge! Yeah I was reading up on your upholstery thread, you're definitely MUCH better at this than me!! Great work from the pics I saw!! I did 7 small seat cushions and a vinyl cover for my engine cover, thats about it. As for machines, all I have is a beginner Brother from Walmart. I'll say though, it did better sewing the vinyl than I thought it would. I might look into getting a new set of covers made for it, at least see how much it'll cost me.
