Does anybody know of a marine canvas supplier in Canada? I have a canvas top on my 15' bow rider, but it is really low. That makes it hard to move around and I have to keep my head lowered to see out the windshield in foul weather. I would like to make a bimni top the is much higher so that I can move easily about and keep the sun from cooking me and put vinyl windows in the front for driving. Workmanship should not be a problem, but getting materials seems to be. The only places I found so far will only make the top for me, but not sell supplies. I want to make it myself (I like doing everything myself if possible). I can get the vinyl from Cabelas, but thats it. Thanks.

You can buy the entire top with higher pipework from Overtons or West marine and get the plastic from Boat Us,I think they carry Sunbrella too.Charlie

I was looking at some nice equipment here on iboats [best selection I have seen yet], but I am just trying to avoid all of the 'shipping to Canada' crap. It can be expensive when you consider the exchange rate, duty, brokerage fees, shipping. At the end of the day, that may be my only resort.

Re: canvas supplier

George N. Jackson Ltd is the supplier my wife uses (in B.C.). Their easternmost location is in Ontario. I'm sure that if you called them they could refer you to a retailer in your area. Make sure you use the proper thread or the whole thing will fall apart in a year. You'll also need a very good machine to handle it - you aren't sewing chiffon here and most household machines do a lousy job of it. Good luck.

If Jackson's can't help you, email my wife at scanvaswork@hotmail.com and I'm sure I can help you. We're across the country but at least it's all in Canada, eh. Mods, feel free to delete this if it's an innapropriate post - I won't be offended.

Re: canvas supplier

Thanks airman [and everyone else],<br />Will try those guys. Already aware sowing such things such as using thread that resists solar deteriation [already assuming I may be able to get same from potential canvas supplier]. As for sowing, I have an old heavy sowing machine that I have already used to make some seat covers etc using a heavy duty upholstery needle. I think it will do. I knew there had to be a supplier in Canada somewhere!

I'll vouch for Sailrite. We've got two of their machines (one bought mail-order, the other bought locally) and their service has been good. You'll still have border hassles but they sell both to retail and wholesale customers.
