Cap and rotor question

I see a lot of talk and post about buying a new cap and rotor from auto part stores like napa, is this acceptable. I would rather do that then drive the hour to ******** hoping they have what I need. If this works what do I need to ask for since I doubt the clerk knows what a 1996 5.7 l mercruiser is.

Just get the OEM part number and give that to the boy behind the counter....

Sorry didn't know, I'll have to wait until morning to get the actual serial number. But bottom line is this will work?

Napa has a full line of marine parts and a marine specific catalog, a lot of the parts are actually Sierra.
