Apparently, according to my better half, we are going to do some boating around Cape Charles this summer. New area to me. I am excited.

I have absolutely no clue what is down there, what to explore and/or how to get the most fun out of our boats (16' Alumacraft and 26' Scarab).

All I know is that great ramps are nearby.

Spent many of my days fishing/crabbing/tubing/skiing/restaurant and island hopping and having all sorts of boating fun around the NJ peninsula of Cape May, enjoying the Delaware Bay, Atlantic Ocean and all spots on the intercoastal waterway from Ocean City, NJ down to Cape May and even over to Lewes, DE.

So, there's my background info. Can anyone give me some advice on the lower Chessie?

Little concerned about local laws and if my Scarab boat is a problem (but this is not the only info I seek!)

Thanks!

Things are a wee bit slower on the Delmarva. A step back in time. The "good ole boys" still rule. A lot of poverty in the area. Mostly sleepy little, has been, fishing villages being bought up by outsiders for the waterfront property so you have a mix of rich and poor in the area.

In a place where crab skiffs, work boats and fishing boats are the norm, you're Scarab is going to stick out like a sore thumb. Expect some "down the noise" looks from the locals.

Here is an article about the area from the NYT

Nice article, Dingbat ... but I am looking at the prices for rooms and eats and thinking, "Man, is the cost of living really that cheap on the Peninsula?" THEN I look at the date ... written Sept, 1982!

I have a trailer right on Chincoteague bay, I can get a dozen crabs for $17.00 and a pould of fresh 16 to 20 count shrimp for $4.99. I eat well when I'm there and it doesn't cost an arm an leg.

Just don't tell anyone, I love it, never had to wait in line to go out for dinner yet. What a peaceful friendly island.
