The squeegee type rubber seals for all of the side windows of my 2001 Maxima are drying out much like old windshield wiper blades. These are the ones at the bottom of the window frame to keep rain out. They squeak and are now seeming to slow down the power windows due to the drag.

Any ideas on what to use or how to soften them up?

Thx, Howard

GM cars had the same problem and the tech service bulletin said to use Di-electric grease.

There's often a felt strip on the inside edge of those strips to help them slide without grabbing. Either way, I've had those harden and crack over time too. Also, dirt gets stuck in there and scrapes making some nasty sounds too. I've never had them stick to the window though. As they age, they harden so it would seem that they should be less prone to slowing down the window as they harden.

Any kind of silicone spray or grease is going to leave a nasty mess on the windows every time they go up/down. I would ask if you're positive that's the reason they are going up/down slower. More often, it is that the grease in the runners has picked up dirt over time or hardened and that's slowing down the windows.
