I am doing a search for a boat and am came across a Caravelle that might be what I'm looking for. I am not familiar with this brand. These boats are built with all fiberglass construction, no wood in the hull, correct? I consider Bayliners at the the low end and Chapparells at the upper end for initial quality. Where does a Caravell rate in the mix?

Thanks

Re: Caravelle boats

Caravelle's are awesome boats! Yes they are made wood free and tend to be a much smaller quantity then a Chap or sea ray making them less known. I'd put them on the same level as a Chap. IMO, Bryant is a similar brand and both are up to par (or right below) that of a Cobalt which seems to be regarded as the best of the best.

I had a Caravelle 18' tri-hull I bought new in '72. Kept the boat for 10 or so years and sold to a friend. We used it a lot and it and the Johnson 125 never let us down. Good solidly built boat and smooth riding due to the hull design and the weight.

Some different owners since 1972, but they still make good "mid-level" boats. Like any boat, check it out thoroughly before you buy it.

Re: Caravelle boats

I had a Caravelle for about 10 hours last year. I bought it, sea tested, brought it out of the water to go somewhere with my dad. Since the launch was paid for I went back with the family to go boating. All went well for about an hour and then it wouldn't start for anything. I got towed back and took the boat back to the seller. He refunded my money!!! I was shocked, and happy as I was worried on the water. It was pure (bad) luck with timing. It was early in the season and the starter just happened to die while I had it out. The boat was awesome, really liked it. I ended up with almost exactly the same boat in the Monterey brand for about the same cost with one size up for the engine. In the end it worked out.

That's my "I owned a Caravelle for 10 hours" story.:lol: Good boat, you will enjoy it.
