I have a 1992 Johnson 60hp, j60tlene. When setting the mixture screws (on the top left hand of each carb, when facing the engine) I read to set them at 1 1/2 turns out. It seemed that were much further out to begin with, 2 1/2 to 3 1/2. So I adjusted them all to 1 1/2 and fired it up on with the muffs on. Runs fine, but still seems rough. I know these motors are not going to run as smooth as a v-8, mine bounces around some. The idle is about 1K on muffs, not sure about on the water yet. But what am I looking for as far as a tuned 2 cycle motor should sound like? Reason I did this is the plugs were getting fouled with oil on the inital startup from cold, once pulled and dried motor would fire up fine and run good, smoke alot. Seemed to be it was running rich. How do I know if it is running to lean or too rich?
Thanks,
SW
