I have just finished the overhaul of a 3.0L mercruiser with the carter low flow fuel pump and I believe i have a rochester 2gc carburetor I have a couple of questions on the fuel pump and carb.

When i pulled the motor out of the boat there was a clear tube connected to the carb and then just laid in the bottom of the boat. When i installed the fuel pump i noticed a connection that didnt have anything hooked to it. Looking in the mercruiser manual it seems that connection on the fuel pump is for a site tube. So i think the tube from the carb should have been hooked there.

So my first question does that clear hose fit between the carb and the fuel pump?

.

On the first start up of my motor is there anything i need to do to prime the the fuel pump. I have tried to stat it but am not getting any fuel to the carb at this point but not sure if i just havent turned it over enough. The battery that i have is pretty weak so it doesnt want to give it a lot of cranks before it dies and i have to recharge it agian.

So quesiton number 2 is do i need to do some to prime the fuel pump?

The clear tube does go from carb to pump, its a safety device incase the diaphram splits. It pumps fuel into the carb to flood the engine instead of pumping fuel into the oilpan. The pump is self priming so takes a little cranking.

to flood the engine instead of pumping fuel into the oilpan.

The mechanical pumps will still put oil in the oil pan, that clear hose prevents the fuel from leaking into the bilge. Automotive pumps just had a hole and the fuel leaked out on the road. With boats and no road for it to evaporate on, it gets sent to the carb.

Nope,... You shouldn't have to....

Sounds to Me, that ya need a reliable Battery,... Fully Charged.....;)

Toss a tablespoon or 2 of gasoline down the carb's throat, just before ya set the choke,...
That'll prime things up....
