Could be then again it could not. That family of engines used a great number of different part numbers along with changes other than just jets. Many of them even used different carbs for the top and the bottom cylinders. Then again some of the 50hp models used the same carb on both top and bottom.

I'd look very closely before dropping any money on those carbs.

I have right now in my garage a 1975 50hp, a 1983 60hp and a 1987 50hp and not one of them has the same carbs on them.

I would not run the 40 hp carbs. Likely the thoat size is smaller than the ones currently on your 60. If you change jets, that does nothing to compensate for small throats that won't flow the same amount of air that your 60 carbs will. You'd be decreasing the hp potential of your engine if you move to the 40 carbs.

The carb emulsion tubes(brass) that are cast into carb and venturi are the biggest differences along with throat ize sometimes... The 40/50/55 are for 2 cylinder motors

Well the listing says 40 50 55 hp carbs.i figured 60 would fit.

And you believed that. Go to PRB website or any other parts website and start with 1975 and work your way thru 1985 and write down all the part numbers for the 40 - 60hp models then you will see for yourself. Each one of those parts numbers there was a change somewhere within that carb. May only be in the throttle linkage assembly but there is a change.

You are missing the point. While the carbs will probably fit, and the engine may run, but you will make 40 hp, not 60. Somehow, I don't think that's the direction you want to go.

I know all of this is not what you want to hear but we are trying to give straight forward advice. Would hate to see anyone spend money on parts that will not work together. If you can go and actually look at and hold these carbs before you buy them then do it. Look closely at these things. Throttle bore, venturi bore, butterfly diameter. Then look very closely at the throttle arms/linkage as that seems to be the major difference between many of these carbs. Remember that the throttle linkage aslo controls and effects the timing advance. So the carb body may be the same with a completely different linkage assembly. In which case you may be able to pull the throttle shafts and swap them

BTW my 60hp has metal tags attached to each bowl that is stamped 60hp so I know there is a difference there. The 50 and 55hp are practically the same engine part for part. The 60 is a tuned out 50/55 and the 40hp is a detuned 50/55hp. Most of that tuning comes from the carbs and the exhaust tube.
