carb change question

I have a 1985 50hp VRO motor. It haden't been run in a couple of years. I went thru the carbs and rebuilt them and when I put them back on, the motor would run for a few seconds and then die. Some times I could get it to refire but not always. I checked the plugs and they were soaked with gas. It seemed to be pumping gas out of the exhaust. A friend of mine took it and had it repaired, but they person that he took it to put new carbs on and converted it to mixing gas and oil. Now he says that it will run on 2 cyl for a while and then 1 for a while, and then 2 and so on. My question is Can I use these carbs and covert it back to VRO or do I have to buy new carbs? Also, Does anyone know what could be causing it to run like it is?

Re: carb change question

some one is blowing smoke. the engine can run with the same carbs whether it is vro or premixed. it sounds to me like they don't know what they are talking about. as the vro oil/fuel pump mixed the gas/oil before it got to the carbs. you really need to find out exactly what was changed.
