Just wondering if anyone has used an aerosol carburetor cleaner for a 2 stroke outboard engine? also wondering if it can be done with muffs on or if it has to be in the water..

Thanks

I wouldn't use it to spray into a running engine. First of all it really won't clean your carb in any useful sort of way. You'd just be shooting it straight through the carb throat, into the reed valves. There it would get sucked into the crankcase, where it may destroy the 2 cycle oil keeping the bearings and pistons lubricated.
If a carb is contaminated, it needs to removed and properly cleaned.
I do use the spray carb cleaner to spray the inside of the carb after soaking it in solvent. I follow that up with compressed air.

There is no such thing, the parts of the carb you need to clean can't be reached with a spray can.

What screws up a carb is clogged jets and the only way to clean them is to get them in your hand.

You can run some Sea Foam in the gas and that will help keep them clean.

There is an alternative (and better approach) to spraying stuff into a carb in hopes of cleaning it. It's called Sea Foam and there are many other fuel system cleaners that do much the same thing. Add it to the fuel tank with every fill up and minor issues caused by varnish and crud build up in the carb(s) can be cleaned up. If this doesn't work, then disassembly, thorough cleaning and installation of new rebuild kits is essential.

Seafoam is King Neptunes gift to the 2 cycle outboard world, IMHO. I religously add it to avery tank and have on several occasions freed up stored/badly varnished carbs with it. ( I run it in heavier doses in the latter case.) I've never had gas , even the E10 stuff, go bad on me since I started using it either.

BTW, if your carb is that dirty, try taking it off and soaking it in that same kind of carb cleaner 9available in gal cans at your auto parts store.) Carb cleaner has it's place, just not squirt down into the guts of your motor.

Napa seems to be the only one who carries it. Crappy Tire doesn't.

But I have no problems finding it in Kelowna, BC. I doubt you would have issues in Onterrible.

You can buy it here on iboats but I'm not sure they will ship to Canada. Also here in teh US, allot of auto parts chain stores like autozone, pepboys etc are starting to carry it. Well worth the hunt IMHO.

Its recently been available at NAPA here in deepest darkest Nova Scotia. There always the OMC brand, haven't tried either yet so couldn't compare.

Carb Cleaners cleans the linkage, throat and throttle/choke valves it doesn't clean jets and floats.
