Cleaning Carburetor...

Currently soaking in lacquer thinner, just have a couple of questions...

1st:
I could NOT remove one of the primary main jets (the brass is stripped out). I assume this shouldn't matter as it should still clean up just fine?

2nd:
Is there any cleaning that needs to be done AFTER the soaking is complete? should I brush things? clear with compressed air? dry with washcloth? Please answer.

Engine is 89 454 magnum, Rochester Quadra jet is carb. Thanks in advance for the response.

1. Main jets should be out in case of crud under the jet.

2. I always rinse with hot water and blow dry with compressed air thouroughly..

If the screw slots are stripped out, the jet is ruined as that will cause disruption of fuel flows. A small easy out should get it out.

Run a thin wire through the jet passages, spray with carb cleaner, blow out with compressed air.

Never run a wire through a jet while it is still in the carb. Brass and aluminum are very easily scored by a steel wire. One little burr will make your engine run like crap.

after soakiing wash it in warm soapy water and re- soak it in the (lacquer???) but before putting the kit on it you need to get that jet out period any kind of cleaner tip and or wire will disort the flow of fuel

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm planning to replace the primary jet thats stripped out -

Question:
How can you identify the primary jet size on the jet itself?

I've got 2 other sets of primary jets from other Quadrajets, unfortunately I can't seem to identify what size they are. According to service manuals I need a .068.....

Nevermind. Got out the magnifying glass to identify the jets. Had a .068 to spare, all is good, and carb is back together, time to get it running....

Thanks for all the help.

I guess you were able to get the bad/stripped jet out. Can you share how you did that with the rest of us?
Glad you got it...

Easy Out / bolt extractor. Very simple with the right easy out and a drill.
