carb core plugs, how to remove?

After all the "no"'s on making my own carb gaskets I decided to order 3 rebuild kits for my carbs and just go ahead and rebuild them.

While waiting for those to arrive. I have a question.

Do I really need to remove the core plugs and if so, HOW do I get them out? What's the correct procedure for removing them?

Thanks!

I just drilled a small hole in the center and flipped them out with an ice pick. They're soft and easy to drill. Just be careful and stop the drill as soon as it punctures the plug.

I like to use a sharp punch .

Just drive it through the plug, and pop them out.

Being carefull not to drive it too deep.

No shavings this way, and its very easy to do.

To properly clean the carbs , they need to be removed.

When putting the new ones back in use a flat ended punch that is only just smaller than the plug, place the plug dome side up and give it a sharp rap with a hammer and the punch.

Thanks all for the tips!

I do prefer the suggested punch punch-out method to drilling.

Carl.
