A very small spring exists in the center top of each float in each of the 3 carbs on a 115HP 1989 IL6 Serial #06478920. The spring sets partally down in a through hole and protrudes up where it apparently makes contact with the lever that controls the incomming gas needle valves operation.

? I can not find information on how high above the top of the float it should extend. ?
? Apparently this spring necessary if it was designed in, correct?

It apparently would affect the level in the bowl and I imagine would change the amount of fuel available going into the carb.

When I have one of these come into the shop...I just replace the floats rather than try to set the spring. Over time the spring loses tension and goes out of adjustment and will fail to work properly.

Make sure you do the needle and seats as well.

TMD

Marine Doctor,
I don't have a source nearby for parts (and conserve $). I'd like to re-use the existing floats if they are not bad. The do float and don't have any liquid inside them.
When you get new floats in, about how high above the float does the spring stick out? Thanks
