Carb float valve posistion?

I am getting ready to rebuild my carb on my Rude 115 V4, looking at the SELOC manual it says the float should be in a parellel position to the carb body when hanging loosely. The floats on both of my carbs are not parrellel, in fact they hang at like a 30-40 degree angle!
What or how would this cause the motor to act?

Thanks
BIGCAT33

What year is your motor? It sounds like you are looking at the float drop rather than its position when seated.

Turn your dissassembled carb upside down.the float should be parellel with the carb body.

DHP

Re: Carb float valve posistion?

It is a 1975, the manual says posistion the carb so that the float hangs freely? to me that ment right side up or on its side, in either case the float is not parrallel, but is just about parralel when upside down. Whitch is the proper way to check this, I thought I may have been onto something here ( was hoping anyway)

Re: Carb float valve posistion?

Think about it. If the float shuts off fuel with the float hanging down, there would never be enough fuel in the bowl to run the engine. Invert the carb and adjust so its level. Then with the carb in the same position, blow into the inlet fitting. If you can blow through it, the needle & seat are not seating. Fix it. If not, you are good to go.

(Carburetor Float Setting)
(J. Reeves)

With the carburetor body held upside down, the float being viewed from the side, adjust the float so that the free end of the float (the end opposite the hinge pin) is ever so slightly higher (just ever so slightly off level) than the other end. And when viewed from the end, make sure it is not cocked.

Better find out what's causing it to stick Bigcat.....the needle should be free to slide in and out the seat without sticking. Is this a new needle and seat?

Its not new, I just ordered a rebuild kit for the carbs and I will replace them, but what kind of problems would this create?

A sticky needle will not seat and the carbs will overflow (run rich).

Or a sticky needle could not unseat, and keep fuel out of the carb.

DHP
