I've taken my boat out a few times now and on occasion I'll have a surging issue after pushing it for a while. I haven't done anything with the ignition(just new spark plugs) and fuel system since I bought it from the previous owner, but I'm going to replace everything just for good measure.

My boat is currently not with me so I cannot verify myself, but I read around that there is a small fuel filter in the carburetor itself. Some are replaceable and some are cleanable. I'm having a very difficult time finding more information on this for this engine. Does anyone with this engine know for sure what the deal is? If it's replaceable, how can I tell which filter to buy? I found a few of them on the iboats store but not sure which one is correct.

Thanks,

Dan

Dan, I would start with a complete tune up. Points, condenser, rotor, cap, and maybe plug wires. Change the fuel/water separator, too. Lots of info in the stickies at the top of this section.

To answer your question...yes, there is a filter in the carb. It is located right where the metal supply line enters the carb body. The filter in my carb is a cleanable type.

Cleanable filters are sintered bronze while the replaceable types are small pleated paper elements.

Thanks for the responses. I've already ordered a tune up kit, coil, wires, and separator, even a new spark suppressor since the one on there seems a bit chewed up. I'll take the carb filter off and see what it looks like. Thanks again.
