Hi everyone,

I just got my hands on a old Gamefisher 7.5 model 217 585831. She would start up with starter fluid but die immediately after. not really any putter or bogging, just die out. The kid I bought it from mentioned something about tinkering with the inline fuel valve (I've only tried it with the internal tank) but after much frustration and trying opening and closing it every which way, I assume it's gotta be a carb issue. Although, when I'd get her going with the starter fluid, she would seem to die quicker as soon as I'd open up the fuel valve, but seemingly would go a bit longer when I kept it close???? This could have been coincidence since I had it on the water for about an hour last night trying everything to keep it running. Feels like I damn near threw out my shoulder.

Pulled the carb this morning and am looking for some help, especially looking at the carb diagrams on sears.

1. From the diagram, it looks like there should be an "inlet needle seat"? is that a rubber piece? when I pulled the bowl, the needle just went up into the bronze looking port. should there be some sort of little bushing around that? couldn't find any better pics of the carb to compare.

2 My gasket tore apart when I pulled the carb. I'm planning on just making a new one out of gasket material. The kicker...the orange rubber plug behind the gasket is cracked and unfortunately doesn't look salvageable. What is this piece? Again, couldn't seem to find it on the carb diagram. What does it do?! I assume I need it but can't find a part # for it.

BTW I spent all last night reading a ton of posts on the forum which I thoroughly enjoyed. Seems like this community has some great resources!

OK! so with just a bit more searching, I answered one of my own questions. The FUEL PUMP is cracked ie the orange rubber piece...

More questions, does anyone have a manual they could possible email me? I assume I wouldn't have to ask such questions if I had one!

As a disclaimer, I've only cleaned a carb a couple of times which was an old honda bike I had long ago. Looking at this carb, I can't quite tell what/how I should take apart to clean. So far, off with the bowl, float, needle, and fuel input cover. I've shot carb cleaner throughout all the little ports and such but should I be taking this apart any further? Thanks

Hello and welcome aboard. The fuel pump "element" is part number 630953 and is readily available on ebay on most other Tecumseh parts distributors. Here is a link to the Tecumseh carb repair manual.Your carb is considered a series 2 and info on installing the pump element is on page 6 of the manual. The slot in the element is oriented to the 2 and 8 o'clock position as you are looking at it.Installing it wrong will shorten it's life and not function correctly.Hope this helps.

Thanks Windy! The link you provided is greatly appreciated. I ordered a carb kit yesterday from Discount Marine. It looks like the series 2 has fixed jets therefore there's no adjustments needed. By the looks of it, the fuel mixture/idle adjustment screw is only thing that I'll be playing with once it's all together. Is this correct?

Be sure you use the same thickness gasket to mount the carb, otherwise, you are messing with the syncronisation of the timing and throttle. Also, when you install the needle clip onto the float, point the open end of the clip away from the engine, and set the float to 11/64" from the carb body.

Re: Carb Help with '79 Gamefisher 7.5

After rebuilding the carb, fresh fuel, and 40 pulls, I got her running briefly. She fired up, then cut out after 30 seconds. pulled a bunch more, but little to no success. can't tell if she's getting too much or too little fuel or what. pulled the fuel lines, which are free and clear. any ideas? anyone know what the spark plug and gap should be? hoping to switch it out and make sure she's getting fire from the plug.

After new a new spark plug and fuel lines, got her running last night with the muffs on. hope to take her out tonight and test her on the water.
