In my first post I posted how my 55hp yamaha wasnt able to run at wot and would stumble and act like something was wrong. Well today I was able to mess with the boat some more and noticed that on the top carb fuel was leaking either from were the carb mounts to the engine or from the bottom bowl screw. It was really hard to tell from which it was leaking but there was a decent amount of fuel in the bottom of the case and you could see a slow drip off the fuel bowl screw.

My question is do you think this is causing my stumbling problem and would a having a shop clean the carbs fix this problem or should I just have em rebuilt at the same time. I just bought this boat so the maintance history is any body guess although the previous owner claimed he had the carbs rebuilt 2 yrs ago. While I have the boat in the shop would it be wise to go ahead and have to fuel pump redone and the water pump also.

Re: carb help

would be best if your not going to do it yourself to tell the shop the symptoms and allow them to test it and repair it, would be a good time to replace the water pump and fuel pump as well.
I know some shops that if you drop it off and the workorder says rebuild the carbs thats what happens even though a rod is hanging out the side.
I have seen it to many times.

Re: carb help

I would get a shop manual and determine wether or not you have the ability to rebuild and replace. Its a good investment wether you are able to do it yourself or have a mechanic do it for you.
