I have an 84 229 v6(ser.6681735) with a 4bbl quadrajet. The FSM has the carb identified as 3300-8886/1703515.The tag on the carb has Mercruiser 13478291 and the casting on the starboard side of the unit has 1703515 1543. Is the 823426a1 the right kit for my application?Dont know when I will have to rebuild it but want to have the kit on hand or at least shop for the best price.Thank you.

The kit to use is No Longer Available so far as my research. The part number would be for the kit is 1347-8536. The kit 823426A1 is a general Rochester Q-jet rebuild and should supply the needed parts to complete the rebuild. Sorry I could not provide more conclusive insight into your issue

The original part number for the repair kit for your carb was 1397-8535, which now supersedes to -823426A1... So the short answer to your question is 'yes'.... Just be aware that many of these later kits include parts for many applications, so you may have parts 'left over' from the kit when you're done.

Check out Cliff's High Performance. He has every part and knows quadrajets inside out. If you decide to call to order instead of using the computer, Cliff answers the phone himself. He will ask you a couple of questions to make sure he's sending you the right parts. Completely dependable, reasonably priced and a great source of information.
His book is full of detail and easy to absorb. His rebuild kits are done to order and can include things like jets, secondary cam and idle tubes, as well as the normal things for a rebuild.
Removing the idle tubes makes a difference in how the rebuilt carb turns out. They can hold in crud that won't allow a smooth fuel flow. A stripped down quadrajet that gets dipped with the idle channels open gets everything clean. I can say that mine turned out great, and I think it was due in large part to the idle tube change and replacing a leaky vacuum break.

Yup, your kit will have a float. It's not brass but a modern plastic that does not absorb gas.
