Carb Issue? What did I miss...?

Hi all, just finished a test run after I got my factory manual and did the link 'n sync setup. 90hp '81 Johnson Crossflow. Carbs cleaned and gone through twice. Compression is good, spark is good. Idles fine in water and in gear. My issue is when I start to accelerate through mid-throttle it just dies out unless I bump the choke through the range until it opens up to the higher speed/rpm's. After a quick run at WOT it'll be fine through the whole lever range down to idle and back up to full speed no issues. Only seems to do this on initial power up. Once it starts to get fuel through it seems fine. Pulled plugs after running and all are the same color, burning fine.
I did notice that the cam plates on the carbs seem worn (holes where the linkage goes) and the linkage is loose. It's very hard to get a good sync so I'm wondering if this could be an issue.
I have a good set of carbs from an '81 140 bubbleback. Could I just put these on? I'm not looking for an HP upgrade, just want to know if I could put these carbs on. The linkage is much tighter on these carbs.
Thanks.

Re: Carb Issue? What did I miss...?

Hi
I had bigger carbs on my 81 90hp johnson.
they were 1 5/16" with 63C mainjets I also had intake stuffers. If i try them again i will order 65C MJ to be safe. Be carefull with jetting! I burned 2 pistons with the 63C main jets.
I think thee 90hp motor had 1 3/16" carbs from factory.

Best regards

David
