Carb issues, bogs at high RPM, where to buy refirb/new?

I have a carb that has some clogging. I am considering buying a refurb. I believe the serial number for the one I need is:

3310-807764A1

It is a 1988 Merc 4.3L (superceded from: 3304-9565A1)

I know SEI makes aftermarket parts that are 1/2 the cost of real merc. Is there an aftermarket carb manufacturer? I don't see the model i need on iboats.

What is the best priced option?

I wouldn't use I5 auto for a carb. My quadrajet wasn't even close to right.
It had two different secondary metering rods, neither of which were right.
It had a terrible bog when the secondaries opened, and ran lean on top end.
Mine is sitting on a shelf. Bought a new Edelbrock, and it works great.

If it's not pitted, why not just rebuild it?

I purchased a re manufactured solex carb from these guys http://www.flyingfishcarburetors.com/. Works great. The prior carb was rebuilt twice by two different people and it still would not run right. Bolted on the new carb and problem solved.

Best option is to rebuild it yourself.

Bogs at high RPM...

I had a pecular issue that you might want to look into. I get the feeling others have this issue to and it took me a while to find the issue (with a lot of help from this forum).

My engine would run at the proper WOT for about 30 seconds and then bog down. I would return to idle and then run it back up to WOT - same thing after 30 seconds or so. It seemed get worse as the day went - bogging at lower and lower rpms. At one point, I could not run over 1500 without a problem.

My issue was the fuel pump creating a vacuum in my fuel line / fuel tank. Either my anti-siphon valve was stuck or I had crud in my fuel line. Once I replace the fuel line, the anti-siphon valve, and the vent line all the problems cleared up.

Where did you get your anti-siphon valve? Is there a vacuum test I can perform to test for his?

Where is the anti-siphon valve located?

It is at the tank where the fuel line goes in. I used to think it meant a valve that prevented people from stealing your gas, but it is a device that prevents gas from freely flowing out under gravity (siphoning) if, say, your tank is at a higher elevation than a leak in the line.

Mine was pretty non-descript - just a brass fitting with a check ball inside it.
